Just received a call from shatish. Told me that i needed to do an article for novena church donation draw which happened on 13th march, saturday. He talked like a 6year old, and i could only hear "correct?" and "okay". The rest were just him murmuring to himself -.- Then i asked : Eh wait can speak english? Shatish: Oi! i am speaking english la! *Rolls eyes,i guess he really don't get what i mean. Then i said : I meant, English that people can comprehend Then there was a brief silence before i hear him murmuring again. -.-! I tried my best to figure out what is he saying anyway. Then sent the article to staff aaron.
On Saturday 13th march, after our NPCC training has ended, we headed to the Novena church located near novena mrt station to help out in our school's fund raising draw. When we reached the church at 2pm,we were given instructions that we were supposed to sell off a minimum of 1 booklet, which contained 10tickets,and with each ticket costing 2 dollars. After discussing with our squad that where would we be situated,we headed to our respective areas of the entrances and the compounds of the church, and started to approach passer-bys or those in the church.I and my squadmate was situated at the entrance of the church. We had agreed that while i approach those who seem english-educated, he will go for the chinese-educated ones. After 5 minutes or so,i finally sold out my first 3 tickets. The weather was hot and it seemed like no other passer-by would bother to even listen to what we had to say,as they all were in a hurry. After what seemed like an hour, i was wiping off the sweat on my face when a gentle looking man approached me. I was surprised as most singaporeans didn't like to donate to funds and charities,or so i thought. He tried to have a look at the booklets i was holding onto ; i immediately told him that our school is holding a fund raising for the renovation costs, and there would be a lucky draw involved. I stressed on the word "Each ticket only costs $2".I didn't expect him to buy,but to my surprise,he fished out $10 from his wallet and passed it to me. "I want 5tickets". I later learnt that he was an "old boy",or ex-montfortian. He asked me where is it located at,and some other questions, and he recalled that the old Montfort school was situated at Punggol. I thanked him before he left for his church services. He made me think alot, that we should appreciate what we have now and be kind to others in the future. Although we had a tiring day,it was a whole new experience for some of us and was a meaningful activity and a learning opportunity.
